How to Choose a Scrubber Drier for Your Facility in India

Floor area, floor type, battery vs electric, walk-behind vs ride-on — a step-by-step buying guide for Indian facility managers.

A scrubber drier is one of the best investments a facility manager can make — but choosing the wrong model wastes money and causes daily frustration. In Indian facilities, where floor types vary from marble to VDF concrete and power supply can be unpredictable, getting the right machine matters even more. This guide walks you through every factor you need to consider.

Step 1 — Know Your Floor Area

Floor area is the starting point for every scrubber drier selection. A machine that is too small will struggle to keep up with your cleaning schedule, while an oversized machine is overkill and difficult to manoeuvre in corridors.

Floor AreaRecommended Machine TypeCleaning Path Width
Up to 500 sq mCompact walk-behind scrubber40–45 cm
500 – 2,000 sq mMid-range walk-behind scrubber50–70 cm
2,000 – 5,000 sq mLarge walk-behind or small ride-on70–80 cm
5,000 sq m and aboveRide-on scrubber drier80–120+ cm

Step 2 — Identify Your Floor Type

Indian facilities use a wide range of flooring materials, and the wrong brush or pad will either damage the floor or clean poorly. Here is what works on each common floor type:

  • Marble and granite: Use soft disc brushes with a pH-neutral cleaning solution. Hard brushes will scratch the surface.
  • Vitrified tiles: Standard disc brushes work well. Use a mild floor detergent for best results.
  • VDF (Vacuum Dewatered Flooring) concrete: Ideal for scrubber driers. Aggressive brushes work here and remove embedded grime effectively.
  • Epoxy-coated floors: Use soft brushes or pads to avoid dulling the epoxy coating.
  • Kota stone: Hard brush recommended. Very common in government buildings and industrial facilities.

Step 3 — Battery or Electric (Corded)?

This is one of the most debated choices in scrubber drier selection. Both have real advantages depending on your facility layout and operations.

Battery-operated scrubber driers are best when:

  • Your facility is large and a power cord would not reach all areas
  • Cables are a safety hazard due to foot traffic or forklifts
  • You clean during business hours when people are present
  • Outdoor areas or multiple floors need to be cleaned

Corded electric scrubber driers are best when:

  • You have a smaller facility with easy access to power points
  • Cleaning is done after hours with no time pressure
  • Budget is the primary concern — corded machines cost less upfront
  • You cannot afford charging downtime between shifts
Sibit Tip

For most Indian hospitals, hotels, and malls, battery-operated machines are preferred because cleaning often happens alongside operations and cables create trip hazards in busy environments.

Step 4 — Walk-Behind or Ride-On?

Walk-behind scrubbers are operated on foot behind the machine. Ride-on scrubbers are larger machines where the operator sits and drives. The choice depends primarily on your floor area and productivity requirements.

Productivity per hour500–2,500 sq m/hr2,000–6,000 sq m/hr

Step 5 — Prepare for Indian Conditions

Machines sold in India must handle conditions that international products are not always designed for:

  • Power supply voltage in India fluctuates between 180V and 260V. Ensure the machine has a wide-voltage motor or built-in voltage protection.
  • Hard water with high TDS levels is common in many Indian cities. This can clog nozzles and reduce solution system life. Ask about water softener compatibility.
  • High dust and particulate levels in Indian industrial areas mean filters need more frequent cleaning. Choose machines with easily accessible, washable filters.
  • Summer temperatures can reach 45°C in many cities. Battery performance drops in extreme heat — look for machines with thermal management.

Step 6 — After-Sales Service is Non-Negotiable

The best machine in the world is useless if it breaks down and spare parts take three weeks to arrive from a foreign supplier. Before you buy, ask these questions:

  1. 1Does the supplier stock spare parts in India, or are they imported on demand?
  2. 2Is there a trained service technician within your city or region?
  3. 3What is the warranty period, and what does it cover?
  4. 4What is the typical response time for a breakdown call?
  5. 5Is operator training included with the machine purchase?
Sibit Tip

Sibit machines come with locally stocked spare parts across Jabalpur, Pune, and Delhi NCR, and a trained technician can be dispatched anywhere in India within 48 hours.

Summary

Choose a scrubber drier based on your floor area first, then floor type, then decide on battery vs electric and walk-behind vs ride-on. Always factor in India-specific conditions and verify after-sales support before committing to a purchase. A demo on your actual floor before buying is worth asking for.
